Surrey Youth Dance Recovery is an eight -week programme of dance interventions in Surrey schools supported by; Arts Partnership Surrey, Active Surrey and Surrey Dance 21.These weekly,  after school dance sessions will be fun, child-led and facilitated by experienced, professional dance artists, based in Surrey County.

The aim of this programme is to reconnect (or perhaps introduce) schools and young people to the benefits of creative dance whilst building stronger, longer-term relationships between schools and Surrey based dance artists.

The project uses dance as a creative tool to help build their resilience, reintroduce physical activity and use the healing powers of dance to rebuild their confidence, wellbeing and resilience post-lockdown.

Schools are encouraged to promote this opportunity to pupil premium students or those who might usually have barriers to engaging with commercial after-school activities.

The project will engage schools across Surrey County in:

  • Elmbridge BC
  • Spelthorne BC
  • Surrey Heath BC
  • Runnymede BC
  • Waverley BC
  • Woking BC
  • Guildford BC

The project has been extremely successful here. The programme is well organised, prepared and planned with the students who attend as the focus, which is shown in their excellent attendance weekly, with the numbers increasing each week. The balance of the Dance and mental health work is perfect and all the students walk away from the session extremely happy – Alexia’s energy and enthusiasm is contagious and the sessions are perfectly pitched for the girls involved. We would love the programme to continue. (Maria Gowing, Teacher).
