After reading English at Cambridge University, Katie graduated from London Contemporary Dance School in 2006 and formed dance company Made By Katie Green in the same year.
Since 2013, Katie has focused her practice on working with dance in museums and heritage sites, primarily through her Dancing in Museums, Dancing in Caves and current ’Imagination Museum: Mayflower 400’ project. She has created new work for the British Museum, Ipswich Museum and worked on the Surrey Arts commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta. Katie has worked with a range of galleries, including Dulwich Picture Gallery (2017) and BASTIAN London (2019-20) and since 2019 she has worked in collaboration with Surrey-based charity Delight developing the Delight in Libraries project, creating a new promenade work for libraries (later adapted for film) called The Story Detectives and an accompanying programme of workshops for schools.
As well as directing Made By Katie Green, Katie works as a freelance choreographer and teacher/mentor and manages the Imagination Museum Consortium, a network of dance artists and heritage practitioners interested in collaboration.
Katie’s role in Surrey Dance 21 is to advocate for dance artists in Surrey, support the design and delivery of the professional development strand of the programme and helping the project team in finding effective ways of supporting the Dance network in Surrey, into the future.
