Surrey Dance 21
Surrey Dance 21 is; dance in libraries, theatres, galleries and museums, in parks, at playschools, in playgrounds, town centres and in shop windows. Surrey Dance 21 is dance on sprung dance floors under a glitter ball and in trees and meadows in the Surrey Hills. Surrey Dance 21 is on film, in wheelchairs, in gunpowder mills and crumbling abbeys. Surrey Dance 21 is for everyone.
We believe that everyone can dance – even if just a little bit. Dance is a wonderful artform that brings joy and through which we express ideas and emotion. Our hope is that throughout 2021 and beyond more people in Surrey become interested in dance both as participants (we would like you to join in) and as audience members. As we emerge from lockdown, we join forces with our colleagues at Active Surrey, dance artists and companies across the county to brush off the cobwebs, stretch out and get moving.
We are working with Active Surrey to provide new dance classes for young people though Satellite Clubs.
There will be some new and surprising dance and movement performances taking place across Surrey, which we will tell you about nearer the time
There are some really innovative dance-led projects that help to meet the needs of people with early onset dementia and Parkinson’s, which we are looking forward to telling you more about.
There are many exciting young dance artists living and working in Surrey, which is one of the reasons for Surrey Dance 21 and we can’t wait to introduce them to you.
Through Surrey Dance 21 we will support dance artists by offering training and a little bit of funding to help them develop their skills, ideas and practice.
Dance artists are making films, which we look forward to sharing with you.
In addition to all of this, there are many fantastic dance companies, choreographers and dance schools that offer classes and performances, which we will celebrate and promote. Surrey Dance 21 will be a celebration of all that can be described as dance in Surrey.
